One to die for killing man in Gopalganj

A court here on recently sentenced a man to death and acquitted three others for killing a man in Muksudpur upazila of the district in 2008.
Additional District and Session Judge Md. Abbas Uddin pronounced the verdict Thursday afternoon.
 The court also fined him Taka 50,000. The accused were absconding at the time of the verdict.
The death convicted accused is Mahanand Talukdar, 49, son of Panchanan Talukdar, resident of Dakshin Jalirpar village in Muksudpur upazila of the district.
According to the details of the case, on May 29, 2008 accused Mahanand Talukdar and his gambling partner kidnapped Bibek Shakhari after snatching money from him and killed him and left the body in a jute field.
The victim’s brother Binoy Shakhari filed a murder case in Muksudpur police station accusing 4 people including Mahanand Talukdar as the plaintiff on May 30, 2008.
After examining the record and witnesses, the court found Mahanand Talukdar guilty and three people were acquitted.
The investigating officer in the case submitted a charge-sheet against him on November 11, 2008.
Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Advocate Md. Shahiduzzaman Khan confirmed the matter.
