Bangladesh lost to South Africa by 104 runs in their Group-B match of the ‘Super Twelve’ phase of the ICC T20 World Cup at Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney of Australia on Thursday.
Electing to bat first, South Africa piled up a mammoth total of 205 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs and then all out Bangladesh for 101 off 16.3 overs.
Bangladesh batters failed to build any notable partnership.
Litton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed could reach the double digit figures.
Litton Das notched up a fine 34. His 31-ball innings saw one four and one sixer.
Soumya Sarkar made 16 runs from six deliveries hitting two sixers.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 11 from 13 balls, while Taskin Ahmed hit 10 from 17 deliveries including one four.
Anrich Nortje captured four wickets in the space of 10 runs, while Tabraiz Shamsi grabbed three wickets at the cost of 20 runs.
Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada took one wicket each for 24 runs each.
Earlier, South Africa had a poor start as opener Temba Bavuma (2) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off Taskin Ahmed when South Africa’s total was just two.
After Bavuma’s dismissal, opener Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw repaired the damage adding together 168 runs in the second wicket stand before Kock was caught at the long-off by Soumya Sarkar off Afif Hossain when South Africa’s total was 170 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Tristan Stubbs (7) was caught at the deep midwicket by Litton Das off Shakib Al Hasan when South Africa’s score was 180 for the loss of three wickets.
Rilee Rossouw was caught at the cover by Litton Das off Shakib Al Hasan when the Proteas’ total was 197 for the loss of four wickets.
Rossouw notched up a terrific 109. His 56-ball innings was laced with eight sixes and seven fours. It is the first century in this T20 World Cup. He was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Kock hit a windy 63. His 38-ball innings saw three sixes and seven fours.
Shakib Al Hasan bagged two wickets at the cost of 33 runs.
Afif Hossain, Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed got one wicket each conceding 11, 36 and 46 runs respectively.
