Bangladesh Development Party applies for registration

Staff Reporter :
A new entity named Bangladesh Development Party (BDP) has applied for registration as a political party of the country.
The application form signed by the party’s General Secretary Md Kazi Nizamul Haque was submitted to the Election Commission on Wednesday afternoon.
The party claimed in the application that it had fulfilled all conditions for registration.
The party reportedly includes individuals who were once in the leadership positions of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh.
In October, 2018, the Election Commission cancelled the registration of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami as a political party, which had opposed Bangladesh’s independence during the Liberation War of 1971.
Md Kazi Nizamul Haque is a leader of the Jamaat’s Dhaka south unit. He is also a former leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, according to sources.
Besides, party Chairman Adv Anwarul Islam Chan is the ameer of the Jamaat’s Demra thana unit.
But Anwarul Islam denied having any connection with the Jamaat.
He said the party would clear up the Jamaat issue and declined to say anything further on the topic.
The party chairman also said they would hold a meeting with the media soon.
Calling Bangladesh Development Party a totally new political organization, Anwarul reiterated that it was not involved with other parties.
