DU research-publication fair begins

The reputed Dhaka University (DU) organised a two days long Research and Publication Fair for first time in the country on Saturday encouraging basic and applied research among the students and teachers of the university.
A total of 290 research items including 28 books, 26 journals and 236 research projects have been published on the occasion of the research and publication fair. Besides, a number of 627 different poster of resesrch and 84 Flyer were displayed on the fair.
Students and visitors as well as various industry institutions, organizations, grant-giving individuals and organizations, experts, institutions that have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) gathered on the fair premises and looked into the research items.
A total of 13 pavilions were installed at the university’s central playground for university faculties, institutes, publication and researches and where 98 stalls for departments.
Industry Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud inaugulated the the fair on Saturday morning chaired by DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman.
“We have to generate a skilled workforce for the upcoming fourth industry revolution. The university cannot do it alone. All relevant government ministries and university alumni should come forward. In that case, I will provide all kinds of cooperation from the Ministry of Industry,” Nurul Majid Mahmud said.
A research presentation ceremony was held at the fair ground where Science, Social Science, Business studies, and Law faculty presented their research items on afternoon.
Biology, Pharmacy, Earth and Environmental Science, Engineering and Technology and Fine Arts faculty will be given slot for their presentation on today. The will two other presentation on behalf of All Institutes and Research bureau.
 “It is necessary to take an academic master plan before the infrastructural master plan. We will discuss for budget to take and implement the academic plan with the Ministry of Finance,” Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury said.
 “The culture of industry-academia relationship and community engagement has not been developed in our country yet. We have been able to realize that for several years. Fundamental research and education is very important and the curriculum should be adopted accordingly,” DU Vice-Chancellor said.
The fair concluded today with a closing ceremony where the best journal from the different faculties will be awarded and the university will also give prizes to the winners of the best posters displayed in the fair.
