JnU Day celebrated amid various events

Jagannath University (JnU) Day was observed on Thursday. This University has entered 18 years.
Jagannath University authority and students observed October 20 as JnU Day.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university Md. Imdadul Haque inaugurated the day by releasing pigeons and balloon.
After that, the Anand rally started from Shanta Chatwar of Campus, Marched through Rai Saheb Bazar and Bahadur Shah Park in Old Dhaka and ended at Shanta Chatwar again. Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer, Proctor and other teachers, students and officials of the university participated in this rally.
On this day, after the rally, the annual art exhibition was inaugurated. Moreover, Taser Desh Natak was performed in JnU’s central auditorium. After that, the cultural song session started in the presence of teachers and students.
Cultural programs of various organisations of the university will be held from 2 pm to 4 pm. From 4 pm, the music of various bands including Wharfaze, Sahazia started. On this day, JnU Campus was bustling with students. The hope of the students is that the job will move forward with this enthusiasm.
It is mentioned that this 154-year-old school as an educational institution passed its 17 years as a university and entered the 18 year.
On September 11, 2005, in the 18th session of the 8th National Parliament, the “Jagannath University Act-2005” was tabled in the Parliament and on October 20 of that year, the government issued a notification declaring the then Jagannath College as a full-fledged university. Since the establishment of the university, October 20 is observed Jagannath University Day.
In 1858, the institution started as Dhaka Brahm School. Later in 1872 the zamindar Kishorelal Roy Chowdhury of Baliya changed the name of the institution to Jagannath School after his father.
In course of time, this educational institution became a second class college in 1884 and then a first class college in 1908. When the University of Dhaka was established in 1921, the undergraduate programs of the then Jagannath College as well as IA, ISC, Masters were discontinued and the institution was downgraded to an Intermediate College.
