Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Monday said that he had not have any talks with the newly appointed Kuwait ambassador to Bangladesh on the issue of the jailed Kazi Shahid Islam alias Papul, a former Bangladeshi parliamentarian.
Hailing from a one-to-one meeting with
Kuwait Ambassador Faisal Mutlaq Aladwani, the foreign minister said this in reply to a query of the journalists in his office.
“During our discussion we did not have any talks about it,” he added.
A Kuwaiti court in January 2021 sentenced Bangladeshi lawmaker Mohammad Shahid Islam alias Kazi Papul and four others to four years in jail in a bribery case.
Later in February last year, the parliamentary seat Laxmipur-2 was announced vacant.
Regarding the issues of the meeting, the foreign minister said, “We have a good diplomatic relation with Kuwait. During the pandemic, the Kuwait government regularised many of our irregular migrant workers.”
Momen also invited the investors of Kuwait through the ambassador to invest here in Bangladesh.
In reply to a query of energy cooperation, he said, “We did not have any talks about the issue.”
