BEPZA exports $96b in last four decades

Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has made the highest financial growth in the last four decades by exporting products of about $96 billion in different destinations across the globe.
According to BEPZA, investment from 37 countries including US, UK, China ( plus Taiwan and Hong Kong), India, Japan, North Korea as well as home investment amounts to around Tk 604.430 crore till June this year.
A total of 456 current enterprises from eight Export Processing Zones exported various goods worth $96 billion since the beginning of BEPZA to June 2022, the authority said recently.
Along with exporting products, BEPZA has also facilitated huge employment opportunities in the EPZs across the country. As per BEPZA, it has created 5.23 jobs for the Bangladeshi people.
BEPZA claimed that they had made a quantum leap in export, investment and employment in the FY 2021-22.
The export has increased by 30.41 percent in FY 2021-22 compared with the previous fiscal year, while investment has increased by 20 percent.
It has created jobs for 64,160 Bangladeshi people in the industries of the BEPZA and it is the highest in number in a single year.
In the FY 2021-2022, the total export was $865.59 crore from the eight EPZs and it was the highest in a single year. In FY 2018-19, it was $752.41 crore, while it was $663.70 crore in FY 2020-21.
The major exporting products of the EPZs are apparel accessories and it is around 54.68 percent of the total exports.
A substantial income derives from other products like footwear and leather, textiles, tents, caps, plastic products and electronics.
On the other hand, BEPZA has gained $40.98 crore of investment in the eight EPZs of the country during the FY 2021-22, which is the highest in a single fiscal year.
