3 workers burnt in Ishwardi

Three laborers were burnt in Ishwardi due to bitumen drum explosion during road carpeting. The incident took place in Arakandi village of Muladuli Union of the upazila on Monday (October 10) evening. The injured are Azizul Haque (50) of Shimulchara village of Ataikula police station in Pabna, Rakib (40) of Kaijuri Sreepur village and Khabir Uddin (55) of Char Balrampur village.
The injured were rescued and taken to Upazila Health Complex first. After the first treatment there, they were sent to Pabna General Hospital at night. Later on Tuesday morning they were shifted to Sheikh Hasina National Burn Institute in Dhaka.
Eyewitnesses said that while kerosene was being poured into a bitumen drum during the carpeting of the road from Nikarhata to Naricha in Muladuli, the drum suddenly caught fire. Three workers were burnt instantly. Khabir Hossain, an injured worker under treatment, said that before we knew anything, the bitumen drum caught fire and exploded with a loud noise. Meanwhile, three fell on the ground. After regaining consciousness, I saw that the lower part of the body was burnt from the waist. Pabna General Hospital has given permission for admission in Dhaka. Now preparing to go to Dhaka.
