There is no possibility of lowering the fuel prices in the country at this moment due to the instability of fuel prices in the international market.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said this while talking to reporters at his residence in the city on Friday.
“We are not getting any comfort zone to import oil and gas. Bangladesh is facing troubles in getting gas as it is now selling at $60, which sold five dollar in the international markets,” Nasrul Hamid said.
Apart from this, country’s load shedding has been less than before, he claimed and said still 500 to 700 megawatts of load shedding is taking place everyday across the country.
“The work of modernization of electricity management has been delayed due to the World Bank’s procrastination and the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Importance has been given to the matter and it would take about two years to get uninterrupted grid with modern technology,” the State Minister said in reply to a query.
Regarding the recent national grid disaster, Nasrul Hamid said that it cannot be said quickly why this problem suddenly occurred in the national grid. The investigation committee is working on the matter and have to wait for their report, he added.
Nasrul Hamid also said that the government is working on the opportunity to get 1500 megawatts of electricity from renewable energy such as solar and wind power.
