RMG factory shut in Ashulia over workers’ clash: 10 hurt

The authorities of Pradac Jeans Limited, a ready-made garment (RMG) factory in Ashulia under Savar upazila have declared the factory closure for an indefinite period following a clash between two groups of workers.
A notice was hung in this regard on the factory gate situated in the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) area on Tuesday morning.
The workers of the factory staged a demonstration in front of the main gate since morning protesting the decision, police said.
Workers said that at least ten workers were injured when two groups of workers locked into a clash while staging a protest for getting minimum wages on Monday.
Following the clash, the factory authorities declared a holiday for the day.
Later, the workers found the notice when they went to the factory in the morning. Factory’s Administrative Officer Majhar Hossain said, “The factory has been declared closed for an indefinite period for the workers’ indiscipline there.”
Ashulia Industrial Police Director Mostafizur Rahman said that police went to the spot following information and brought the situation under control after an hour.
He claimed that additional police have been deployed in front of the factory to avoid any untoward situation.
