Factory owner gets HC bail

The High Court on Tuesday granted an interim bail for six months to a Rana Plaza garment factory owner in a case filed over the building collapse.
An HC bench comprising Justice Syed AB Mahmudul Haque and Justice M Akram Hossain granted bail to Bazlus Samad Adnan, owner of ‘New Wave Style Ltd’ that had been housed in the collapsed Rana Plaza.
The commercial complex, built with a faulty
design at Savar on the outskirts of capital Dhaka, came crushing down on April 24, 2013, killing over 1,134 people and injuring some 2,515.
The building collapse is considered to be the deadliest garment-factory accident in history, as well as the deadliest accidental structural failure in modern human history.
Three cases-one by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) against Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana for constructing the building violating the Bangladesh National Building Code, another by police against Rana, his father Abdul Khalek and owners of five garment factories housed in the nine-storey building for the loss of lives and the rest by Sheuli Akter, wife of Jahangir Alam whose body was recovered from the debris-were filed in connection with the tragedy.
