Poor coverage of sports
The country’s television channels, including BTV, overlook South America, North America, Oceania, East Europe, Asia and Africa in their soccer news. They focus on Germany, Italy, Spain and England only for the reason best known to them. It is true that these four countries won the World Cup 10 times out of 20, but the soccer fans of our country want to know what happens in other countries and continents also.
Few days ago, the World Badminton Super Series 2014 ended in China and Hong Kong. Perhaps, the New Nation is the only paper to have published the final results. Off course, it is praiseworthy and we hope that the daily will continue to do it and give attention to world hockey, badminton, volleyball, table tennis, gymnastics, shooting, archery, diving, martial art, rowing, swimming, athletics and all other disciplines of sports also.
.We heard a year ago that a private television channel management was about to open a sports channel. We became optimistic and were waiting for the outcome. But soon our hopes and aspirations melted away.
We think that the sports channel will earn profit because itl will have highest number of audiences, meaning highest number of advertisements. The Bangladesh Television has more than three channels and one of them may be used as the sports channel. Just an
initiative can fulfill our demand.
