Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said that EC hasn’t made any decision as to whether the full national election would be run with Electronic Voting Machines (EVM). The commission will consider the views of political parties in this regard.”
He said, many people may have many ideas. The parties may have their opinions too. However, after reviewing all aspects, the EC will take the decision on which method the voting will be held.
He was speaking with the media after inaugurating a program at Electoral Training Institute (ETI) in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday (9 May), the Election Commissioner (EC) M Alamgir told the media that EVMs could be used in 100 seats if the political parties could gain confidence in the upcoming elections.
At the meeting of Awami League’s central working committee held on Saturday, party president Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina indicated that EVM would be used for voting in all seats in the next national election. BNP and the other opposition parties are opposed to the use of EVM.
CEC Kazi Habibul Awal said the EC at the moment does not have the capacity to conduct voting in all 300 seats with the EVM.
