Sagar-Runi case: 2 accused taken on remand

A Dhaka Court yesterday (Tuesday) placed two accused of Journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi murder case on a two-day remand each to quiz them about the incident.
Magistrate Tareq Mainul Islam Bhuiyan of the Chief Metropolitan (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the remand order on Tuesday morning.
The two accused persons are security guards Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir and Palash Rudro Paul. On November 6, the CMM Court fixed November 11 to hear remand pleas against the two accused. The Detective Branch (DB) of police on that day (Nov 6) submitted
a petition seeking a seven-day remand.
On February 11 in 2012, Sagar Sarowar, News Editor of private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, Senior Reporter of ATN Bangla, were killed at their rented flat in the capital’s West Rajabazar area.
Police have so far arrested eight persons in connection with the double murder. In October of the same year, the then Home Minister announced a bounty of Taka one million for helping law enforcers nab Humayun Kabir, who was then on the run. Later, on February 9, last year he was arrested.
