Martyred intellectual day observed at IU

The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day on Tuesday, paying proper tribute to the intellectuals killed by Pakistan occupation forces and their local collaborators at the fag-end of the Liberation War.
Marking the day, IU Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mahbubur Rahman hoisted the national flag at half-mast position while treasurer Professor Dr Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan hoisted a black flag in front of the university’s administrative building around 9:40am. Besides, the provosts of all the residential halls hoisted the national flag at half-mast position and black flags atop at their respective halls in the morning.
Later, the teachers, students, officers and staff of the university brought out a procession from in front of IU administrative building. The procession ended in front of the university’s memorial monument after parading main streets of the campus.
IU authorities, IUTA, Bangabandhu Parishad, Shapla Forum, Zia Parishad, IUJA and different teacher and student organizations placed floral wreaths at the university’s memorial monument. Later, special prayers were offered at the same place for bestowing peace upon the souls of martyred intellectuals.
Later, a quiz competition on the history and heritage of Bangladesh was held at the Gallery room of Rabindra-Nazrul Arts Building on the campus with the participation of the students of university.
Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mahbubur Rahman and treasurer Professor Dr Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan were present at the event as the special guest while acting registrar M Ataur Rahman as the guest presided over by Professor Dr Anowar Hossain, convener of the martyred intellectual day celebration committee. Around two hundred teachers and students of the university attended the function conducted by the Sherina Bithi.
