World AIDS Day observed in dists: Concerted efforts to prevent spread of HIV underscored

The world AIDS Day was observed in Kishoreganj on Wednesday.
Civil Surgeon (CS) Office including District Administration in Kishoreganj arranged a colourful rally, discussion, handbills distribution marking the World Aids Day on Wednesday.
A discussion meeting was held at Kishoreganj General Hospital Conference Room on Wednesday morning.
DC Kishoreganj Mohammad Shamim Alam attended the programme as Chief Guest. Police Super( SP) Mashrukur Rahman Khaled Bpm (Bar) and Deputy Director in Kishoreganj General Hospital Dr.Helaluddin were attended as special guests.
Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Mujibur Rahman presided over the discussion.
Later,a colourful rally was brought out in the town.
BSS from Rajshahi reports: Concerted efforts of all the government and non-government organisations concerned can be the effective means of successful prevention of HIV/AIDS through generating public awareness on the issue.
Utmost emphasis should be given on bringing all the stakeholders and other gatekeepers under necessary awareness programmes to prevent anymore infection of the deadly virus.
Health experts and development activists came up with the observation while addressing a stakeholders meeting at the conference hall of the Civil Surgeon office here on Wednesday.
The Civil Surgeon Office organised the post-rally discussion in association with many NGOs and voluntary organisations to mark the World AIDS Day in the city.
‘End Inequalities, End AIDS, End Pandemics’ was the main theme of the day.
Civil Surgeon Dr Quiume Talukder and its office colleagues Dr Bayezeed Ul Islam and Dr Tamanna, Assistant Superintendent of Police Rejaul Islam Executive Director of Ashakta Punarbashan Sangstha Abul Bashar, Light House Project Manager Kabir Hossain and General Secretary of Diner Alo Hijra
Sangstha Sagarika addressed the meeting.
The discussants underscored drawing people en mass about diseases like AIDS, following health rules during sexual contacts, developing religious ethics and moral values and involving the socio-religious and political leaders for prevention of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
Dr Quiume Talukder said HIV/AIDS is not only a health issue but also a social development concern. He stressed the need for more coordination among the different organisations and stakeholders to attain cherished results. He added that only the government or any single organisation isn’t capable
of resisting the HIV/AIDS infection as its risk and vulnerability is gradually being increased due to various reasons.
BSS from Madaripur adds: The World AIDS Day was observed in the district on Wednesday as elsewhere in the country and the globe in line with the health safety regulations.
The day has been observed since 1988 to create mass awareness against Aids across the world. According to the UN declaration, the involvement of people from all walks of life is very important to eradicate AIDS by 2030.
‘End Inequalities, End AIDS, End Pandemics’ was the main theme of the day. Maintaining social distancing and following health guidelines, set up by the government, Madaripur Civil Surgeon Office arranged a rally and provided leaflet and poster inscribed with AIDS related information among people, sources said. The rally was inaugurated by Dr Munir Ahmed, Civil Surgeon of the district while physicians, staff and nurses were present, among others. The rally started in the morning from Sadar Hospital and paraded important areas of Civil Surgeon Office premises. Later, a discussion meeting was held at Civil Surgeon Office with Dr Munir Ahmed in the chair. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shimul Kumar Saha, Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Ekram Hossain, President of Madaripur Press Club Shahjahan Khan, General Secretary Muktijoddha Jahangir Kabir, officials of various departments, among others, were present on the occasion.
