BFF gets Tk 6 crore to host Bangabandhu International Gold Cup

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) will get Taka six crore from Private television Channel 9 to host this year Bangabandhu International Gold Cup Football Tournament that will begin in the third week of January next year with the participation of six countries.
In this regards, a signing ceremony between BFF and Channel 9 was held at the BFF conference room on Thursday. BFF president Kazi M Salahuddin and Channel 9 managing director Enayatur Rahman signed for their respective organization. Channell 9 also handed cheque of Taka one crore out of six crore to BFF.
Under the signing in contract Channel 9, the satellite television, became the official title and TV right holders for the six-team event for the next five years and they will give Taka six crore to BFF each year to host the tournament. The five-year contract is renewable in each year.
“Channel 9 Managing Director Enayatur Rahman said “Our main target is to make popular the country’s morbid football by hosting the tournament. If we able to come forward properly, we hope we will able to popularize the football.” We have also plan to host the tournament in alternating venue in each year, he added.
BFF president Kazi M Salahuddin said the contract with channel 9 is simple. They have five years contract with channel 9 to host the tournament. They would provide six crore to BFF each year. BFF will get the entire get money earned from the tournament, he added.
BFF senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy, vice president Badal Roy, BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Sohag, BFF members, Harun-Ur-Rashid, Sheikh M Maruf Hasan, Amirul Islam Babu, Elias Hossain and Satyajit Das Rupu, channel 9 chief executive officer brigadier general (retd.) M Jamil Ahmed Khan, head of account Zinnat Hossain, head of news Aminur Rashid, head sales of marketing Nurul Islam Khan, head of program and events Tanveer Khan, were among others, present on the occasion.
Seven countries – Malaysia, Bahrain, Laos, Singapore and Thailand, Qatar and India – already confirmed their participation in the tournament where as BFF will invite five countries to take part in the meet. The tournament matches will be held in Dhaka and Sylhet venues of the country.
The Bangabandhu Gold Cup was last held in 1999 as the BFF failed to organise the tournament since then despite considering to revive the event from 2009.
Though the football body was not able to organise any international tournament, they did host the AFC and Saff Championship meets.
