Ilias Kanchan to get Lifetime Achievement Award

Television Reporters Unity of Bangladesh (TRAB) is going to honour the Lifetime Achievement Award to noted film actor and social worker Ilias Kanchan for his contribution for road safety movement under the banner of Nirapod Sorok Chai. The award will be given at a programme, which is scheduled to be held at Dhaka Club on November 19. President of TRAB, Salam Mahmud confirmed the matter
yesterday. Ilias Kanchan is also informed about the matter. He said, “Basically I have not been engaged to continue this movement for the road safety to get any award. I think as a citizen, I do it from self responsibility. Now National Road Safety is observed in the country. It is my many days’ effort. But when I knew I am going to get Lifetime Achievement Award, I feel really bad because I acted in many movies and there was scope to get the National Film Award for several times. But I did not get. Still I don’t know why I did not get it. When respected Subhash Dutta’s movie Bashundhara was released many people thought I was really a painter. But the National Film Award did not give me because they thought in early age if I get the national Award I could become derailed. I still do not realise the matter. However, I love Salam. I will be present physically in the programme to receive the award, Inshallah.”
Ilias Kanchan also said that recently he finished shooting of a work titled Noya Dorbesh. Shah Alam Noor has made this work. The actor is very much delighted to play the role of saint (Dervish). “I am trying my level best to turn Jahanara Kanchan High School into college. It is situated at Par Ghoradoho in Pabna. Another interesting thing is that area is now popular among local residents as Kanchan Bazar. It really makes me excited.” Ilias Kanchan debuted his acting career opposite Bobita in Subhash Dutta’s movie Bashundhara on March 26 in 1977. Later, he also acted under same director’s direction in movie Dumur-er Phul. He acted against Shabana in only movie Shesh Uttor, directed by Azizur Rahman Buli. As a pair, he was popular with Champa, Diti and Anju Ghosh. Specially as a pair with Anju, Kanchan acted movie Beder Meye Joshna, directed by Tozammel Haque Bokul, became a milestone in the country’s film arena. With Diti, he first acted in Swargo Norok, directed by late Mostafa Anwar. With Champa, he first acted in movie Tin Konnya. Till now he acted in more than 330 movies. In 1986, he got National Film Award for acting in Alamgir Kabir directed Porineeta. Later, he was given same award in category of Best Side Actor role for acting in Chashi Nazrul Islam’s Shashti. But he refused to receive the award. Badshah Bhai was Ilias Kanchan produced his first solo movie. He gave direction of two movies – Baba Aamar Baba (2008) and Mayer Swapno (2010).
