Evaly misses deadline to explain liabilities

Business Desk :
E-commerce platform Evaly missed the Thursday deadline to submit a report explaining its liabilities to customers, said the commerce ministry.
The ministry’s Additional Secretary Md Hafizur Rahman said the designated committee will decide on the measures to be taken for not providing the report on time.
Responding to a question over accepting a delayed report, he said Evaly would first have to explain the cause of the delay.
Earlier on 19 August, Evaly’s Managing Director Mohammad Rassel informed the ministry that its actual debt to customers and merchants was higher than the amount mentioned in the Bangladesh Bank’s inspection report submitted to the commerce ministry.
As of 15 July, the total liabilities of the e-commerce platform, including advances taken from customers, debts to suppliers and other business debts, amounted to Tk543 crore. Besides, there is an additional debt of Tk1 crore for shareholder equity, said a statement submitted to the commerce ministry.
Therefore, the total debt of Evaly now stands at Tk544 crore, which is Tk140 crore more than the amount mentioned in the central bank’s inspection report submitted to the commerce ministry in June this year.
