Demo against DU’s new admission system

Students seeking admission into Dhaka University (DU) have demanded the restoration of the old system of admission enabling them to appear twice for the intake examination of DU.
The demand was made at a rally held on Friday on the DU campus under the banner of general students.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor A A M S Arefin Siddique, however, said that there was no scope of going back to the old system.
“The students can demonstrate on the university campus because they have right to express their opinion.
But we shall abide by our rules and regulations. No movement can influence us. If the students resort to the violent programme, the university administration would take stern action against them,” Professor Arefin warned.
After the demonstration, the agitated students tried to go to Shahabag intersection. But police stopped them. No one was however arrested in this connection.
Later, the students announced to stage a demonstration and form a human chain on Sunday morning at 10am.
