Legality of 16th amendment challenged

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court (HC) challenging the legitimacy of 16th amendment to the Constitution mandating the Parliament to investigate and sack top judges on the grounds of incapability and misconduct. Yunus Ali Akanda, a lawyer of Supreme Court, filed the petition with the related branch of the Court on Wednesday. Yunus Ali said, “Hearing of the petition may be held at judges Mirza Hossain Haidar and Ataur Rahman’s bench on next Sunday.” Respondents to the petition are Law Secretary, Cabinet Secretary, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and one other. — risingbd.com
