Stray dog relocation after consulting writ petitioners, stakeholders

Attorney general AM Amin Uddin on Monday told the High Court (HC) court that the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) authorities have stayed the move to relocate the stray dogs.
If the authorities take any further initiative in this regard, it will be taken in consultation with the writ petitioners and other stakeholders, added the chief law officer of the state.
After hearing the AG and the counsels of the writ petitioners, who challenged the DSCC move to relocate the stray dogs, the HC bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali on Monday dropped the writ petition from its cause-list.
After the court order, attorney general told the reporters that the DSCC authorities had stayed the move to relocate the stray dogs and if any further initiative is taken, it will be taken in consultation with the writ petitioners and other stakeholders.
Saqeb Mahbub, a lawyer for the writ petitioners, said, that attorney general declared on behalf of DSCC mayor that no further removal activities will be done without consulting with the writ petitioners and without consulting with different concerned ministries.
In these circumstances and consent of the both side, court has ordered the matter to ‘out of list for the time being’ with the condition that if there are any further move by the DSCC, petitioner can mention the matter to come up in the cause-list for hearing, added the lawyer.
Lawyer Mustafizur Rahman Khan appeared for the writ petitioners during hearing of the petition on Monday.
Renowned actor Jaya Ahsan and two animal welfare organizations, Obhoyaronno and People for Animal Welfare, submitted the writ petition as a public interest litigation to the HC on September 17 requesting it to stay the DSCC move to relocate stray dogs and dump them in the Matuail landfill.
During hearing the same petition, the HC bench on October 12 opined that the DSCC should not continue its move to relocate stray dogs from its area until further hearing of the writ petition filed to this effect.
