Robbery with DB’s identity, 3 arrested

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a special drive arrested three alleged robbers, including the chief of a robber gang, from Dhaka’s Kajla area under Jatrabari police station on Monday.
They also seized one home-made pistol, one round pistol cartridge, one vest with DB written on it, and one wireless set from their possession.
The accused are Md. Barek, 37, Md. Abul Kashem alias Jiban Byapari, 56, and Md. Swapan Akand, 40.
DB Additional Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter confirmed this to The New Nation on Tuesday.
He said snatching incidents with DB identity are often heard. DB’s image is involved with the issue. We cannot allow DB’s image to be tarnished in any way.
“With the help of information technology and on the basis of intelligence information, Snatcher was arrested. The detainees were trying to commit robbery in Kajla area under Jatabari police station on Monday night,” Hafiz Akter added.
He said On September 6, a person withdrew Tk 15 lac from a bank branch. While riding on a rickshaw, a circle took him away with the identity of DB.
They Targets the person who were carrying or withdrawing money coming to the bank or institution at different places in Dhaka city and its surrounding areas.
Giving threat to hang the targeted person by filing arms and drug they picked up the victim in the car.
“After snatching money and valuables; they left the victim in a secluded place and fled.” Additional Commissioner of DB added
He said two cases were filed against them jatrabari thana. There are eight cases against arested Barek, seven cases against Abul Kashem and nine cases against Swapan Akand In different police stations of the country including the capital.
