Medical teams to work at cattle markets
The government has already formed medical teams for the cattle markets across the country and Dhaka city to examine the health of the sacrificial animals ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
The teams will monitor the cattle markets in city, municipal, district and upazila level markets from Thursday.
Chief Veterinary Officer of Fisheries and Livestock Department will brief the medical teams today (Wednesday), sources said.
Twelve medical teams have been formed for the 12 entrance points of the capital and other places. Each
medical team consists of two doctors, they added.
Another sources said, the teams will work on the presence steroid (one kind of hormone group medicine) in the cattle. Steroid like Dexamithason, Cortisol, Bitamithason, Hydrocortison as well as Ciproheptadine and Urea, Oradex, Cortan, Adam-33, Piredanisolon and Decason are used to fatten the animals. These medicines are harmful for human health.
Mohammad Ali Nur, Joint-Secretary of Fisheries and Livestock Ministry said that the decision was taken to ensure healthy animals for sacrificing on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Department of livestock will monitor the teams, he said.
He further said that local livestock officers would also examine the health condition of the sacrificial animals at upazila level on the occasion of the upcoming Eid.
