The singer famous for Kaane Kaane laid out some interesting details about herself – starting from her latest documentary film to being held at gunpoint on stage.
Sonica started her DJ career around 2007. She started off at an early age by assisting DJ Rahat in his events. Her cheerful attitude and playing grabbed the attention of the organisers, who then started to offer her shows at the age of 18. The young girl faced a lot of social barriers as well. She was often harassed for coming home late at night, but Sonica was determined to make a name for herself.
After 13 years, Sonica has done more than a thousand stage shows, four music videos and received the award for ‘Best Bangladeshi Female DJ’ in the Dhallywood Film and Music Awards in 2013. Apart from that event, Sonica’s most cherished memory includes playing with Bally Sagoo at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden in 2012.
‘Somewhere with DJ Sonica’ is produced by Shireen Hinckley and Anna Dobos of Somewhere Films. Shireen Hinckley has also worked as the post-production supervisor of Beyoncé’s latest video Black is King. The film was released on August 12 and the 10-minute documentary showcased how Marzia Kabir Sonica became DJ Sonica. While talking about her career’s memorable thing Sonica said, “You won’t play Hindi music; let me show you my gun! Now start playing Nagin Nagin already. There was a time when DJ parties would be incomplete without the Nagin song and this popular song put my life at risk when I refused to play Hindi songs. I completed my performance while being held at gunpoint.”
Sonica informed that she has scheduled to release her latest track with Habib Wahid next month. The singer earlier collaborated with Habib in two songs – Din Je Furalo and Kaane Kaane.
