Jhuna Chowdhury: A versatile actor

Jhuna Chowdhury is a popular name in the country’s arena of theatre play. He is also a noted actor in TV plays and films. Hailed from Shayestaganj of Habiganj, Jhuna Chowdhury started his acting career in 1971-72 when he was in Habiganj and attached with ‘Joy Bangla Sangsad,’ which activities continued till 1980.
In 1978, Jhuna acted in play ‘Tri-Ratna’ in Dhaka College. During that time he was engaged with theatre group, Nattyadal. Under the banner of this group he acted in several numbers of popular plays like ‘Ekhono Kritodas,’ ‘Payer Awaj Pawa Jai,’ ‘Ekhane Ekhon,’ ‘Senapoti,’ ‘Juddho Ebong Juddho.’
Later in 1990, Jhuna Chowdhury along with Tariq Anam Khan and Tauquir Ahmed formed a theatre group ‘Nattyakendra.’ Still now he is engaged with group. Tariq Anam Khan is head of this group while Jhuna is chief secretary. Under the banner of this group Jhuna acted in five plays like ‘Bichhchhu,’ Tughlak,’ etc.
Basically Jhuna is a dedicated worker for theatre play. In TV play, he first acted in play ‘Nibhrito Jotone’ produced by Md Jakaria. Till now he acted in many TV plays. His acted first movie was Jahirul Haque’s ‘Ye Kore Biye.’ Later he acted in many films including Tanvir Mokammel’s ‘Chitra Nodir Pare’ and Murad Parvez’s ‘Brihonnola.’
Jhuna informed that from March 23 he is expected to take part in shooting of noted film actress Kobori-directed a government-grant movie. “To come into present position, my second elder brother Chowdhury Sanwar Ali, younger sister Monwara Tahir, Ramendu Majumder Dada, Tariq Anam Khan had a lot of continuations. Everybody pray for me.”
