Govt appoints VC, Registrar & Treasurer in BSMRMU

The government has appointed Vice- Chancellor (VC), Registrar and Treasurer for the first time in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRMU), said an education ministry release here on Tuesday.
Rear Admiral ASM Baten got the appointment as the VC, Commodore Khandoker Towfiquzzaman as the Registrar and Commodore ANA Rezaul Haq got appointment as the treasurer for a period of four years, said the release.
The appointment was confirmed in three separate gazette notifications issued by the Ministry of Education. The present Awami League government has taken an initiative to establish Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University at the campus of Bangladesh Marine Academy at Anwara in Chittagong.
The president has given an approval to the law related to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University on October 26 in 2013 following the passage of the university establishment bill in the parliament.
The graduate and post-graduate level education and research on Safe Marine Movement Management and Administration, Ship Engineering and Technology, Oceanography, International Maritime Law have been included under the curriculum of the university, it said.
Country’s first Maritime University was established on 35 acres of land under the Bangladesh Marine Academy. The international standard ‘Bachelor of Maritime Science’ degree to be awarded to the Marine cadets from this University which is now being conferred from the National University, the release added.
