Conspiracies on to destabilise country’s peace: Quader

Staff Reporter :
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that conspiracy is on to destabilise the country’s peace and prosperity.
There is an abundance of leaders in the Awami League, but very few of them are sincere and active workers.
“The party should select its leaders cautiously, as conspiracies are on to destabilise
the country’s peace,” Obaidul Quader said on Saturday while addressing the triennial council of Rajshahi city unit of AL at Madrasa Maidan in Rajshahi.
The Awami league General Secretary said there are growing number of leaders in the party, but most of them are driven by greed for power and money.
“The party needs true activists now. But it appears that the number of true activists in the party is decreasing and that of leaders is increasing. We don’t need so many leaders,” he said.
The party general secretary said, “Whenever you look at the billboards on the streets, you will see pictures of leaders. Many of the leaders are not even well-known, but they made themselves leaders.”
Memorising the past days, Obaidul Quader said, “Once, it was difficult to gather one hundred people to bring out a procession in this city (Rajshahi), but now, you see that more than one hundred men are on the stage in public meetings.”
He said, most of those so-called leaders are driven by greed for power and money, and these opportunists would leave the party during its crisis.
He asked the party men to shun the path of greed for power and honey, but to adhere to the ideologies of Bangabandhu.
Abolishing the present committee of the party’s Rajshahi unit, Obaidul Quader announced the new committee with Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzman Liton as the President and Dablu Sarker as its General Secretary.
He directed the new leaders to declare the full committee within a month comprising true pro-people leaders.
