At least 10 people were killed and 70 others injured in separate road crashes across the country on Wednesday.
In Cox’s Bazar, at least two drivers were killed and 10 others were injured when a truck collided head-on with a passenger bus near Khutakhali Medakachopia National Garden of Chakoria upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday noon.
One of the deceased was identified as truck driver Mohammad Liton, 35, son of one late Shahjahan, an inhabitant of Charfashion upazila of Bhola.
The identity of another bus driver could not be known instantly.
Morshedul Alam, in-charge of Malumghat Highway Police Outpost, told media that the stone-laden truck collided with a passenger bus coming from opposite direction on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway at 12:00 pm, leaving driver of truck dead on the spot and 11 others injured.
Later, driver of the bus succumbed to his injury on way to hospital, he said.
The injured were taken to local hospital, Morshedul Alam added.
In Bogura, two persons were killed and 20 others injured when a bus plunged into a roadside ditch after hitting an auto-rickshaw in Shibganj upazila of Bogura on Wednesday noon.
The deceased were identified as the bus assistant Shahidul Islam, 45, a resident of Raiganj village, and the auto-rickshaw driver Dilbar Rahman, 48, of Putkhur village, in the upazila.
Quoting locals, Shibganj Police Station officer in-charge (Investigation) Nannu Khan said that a Bogura-bound bus of ‘Adhunik Paribahan’ fell into a roadside ditch after hitting a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Kichak area, leaving Shahidul and Dilbar dead on the spot and 20 others injured.
In Jashore, a driver was killed and 15 people were injured in a head-on collision between two buses on the Navaran-Satkhira Road at Harikeni in Sharsha upazila on Wednesday morning.
Details of the victim were not immediately available.
In Magura, a motorcyclist was killed and another was injured when a speedy truck hit the bike in Shalikha upazila on Tuesday midnight.
The deceased was identified as Mosharraf Hossain, 48, son of Sharafat Joardar of Sadar upazila. His wife was injured.
Tariqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Shalikha Police Station, said the couple was going to Jashore at night. The accident took place when the truck collided with their motorcycle, leaving them injured.
They were taken to Jessore General Hospital where the doctor declared Mosharraf dead, the OC said.
In Rangamati, a tractor driver was killed and two of his associates were injured when it overturned at Sajek on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Ripon Chakma, 33, son of one Birubaha Chakma of Bangatali area in the upazila.
The accident took place when they were returning home on the goods-laden tractor, leaving them injured, said Israfil Majumdar, Officer-in-Charge of Sajek Police Station.
In Sherpur, a man was killed and three other passengers were injured as a truck smashed a auto-rickshaw in Sadar upazila of Sherpur on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Chan Mia, son of Abul Hossain of Simar Para village in Bakshiganj upazila of Jamalpur.
In Cummila, a woman died when a vehicle hit her in the Ashoktola area of the district.
The victim identified as Sahida begum,55, was wife of one Khorshed Alam.
