World must punish genocidal Myanmar in line with ICJ decisions

International news agency reported that at least two women, one pregnant, were killed when the Myanmar military fired shells in the villages two days after the International Court of Justice asked to prevent genocide and protect the members of Rohingya community, who are still residing inside the country. Many believe that shelling Rohingya villages in Rakhine State by Myanmar military on Saturday just after the ICJ verdict might be an expression of anger of powerful Myanmar military. We also think, the shelling on the persecuted people, who are asked to be protected, is a sheer denial of the ICJ order that demand sanction and boycott globally. The ICJ orders have brought qualitative changes on Myanmar’s international engagements. Currently, three parallel judicial processes are going on at the ICJ, the International Criminal Court and independent mechanism of the UNHRC involving the atrocity committed against Rohingya people by the military.
It is sure the Myanmar government, which was on denial mode about Rohingya people’s rights, could not accept the ICJ decisions easily. The experts asked Bangladesh foreign ministry to put pressure on Myanmar to oblige the orders and start long-hyped repatriation. Bangladesh side would also require keeping eyes on activities of Myanmar inside the country. Bangladesh must spearhead the global community to compel Myanmar to execute ICJ verdict. Besides, two other trials with other international courts should get legal and diplomatic support from Bangladesh. Undeniably, the ICJ verdict is a victory of Rohingyas and an acknowledgement of the mass killing, war crime and possible genocide.
The harsh truth is that Myanmar army is an uncivilised brutal force grown as such over the years under their brutal rule. The world should take every genocide wherever it happens seriously unless it wants many Auschwitz. Already another country Israel under prime minister Netanyahu is becoming a genocidal country in terms of his treatment towards Palestinian Muslims. He shows anger and arrogance comparable to Hitler. Already some countries blame Israel for committing genocide against Muslims.
