3 cleaning staff held with gold at HSIA

Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has arrested three cleaning staff with gold bars weighing around 2.3 kg worth around Tk 1.16 crore from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka.
The arrested men are Md Sumon Sikder, 34, Md Shahin Hossain, 27 and Md Belal Akond, 28.
Md Alamgir Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Airport APBn, said the trio embarked Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-28 that arrived from Chattogram for cleaning. After they completing cleaning, the on-duty policemen at the terminal wanted to search them but they refused, which led to
an altercation between them.
Later, they were taken to the armed police office and then arrested them after police found 20 gold bars hidden in Sumon’s shoes.
During preliminary interrogation, Sumon said an aircraft technician named Kalam gave him the gold bars. He said, he would have received Tk 20,000 for this job.
A case has been filed with the Airport police station in this regard, the official added.
