Age group swimming concludes with BKSP domination
Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) became the champion of the three-day Cotton Group 30th National Age Group Swimming Championship held at Syed Nazrul Islam National Swimming Complex in Mirpur.
BKSP ended the meet on Wednesday securing 64 gold, 57 silver and 48 bronze medals.
Bangladesh Ansar finished distant runner-up bagging 22 gold, 17 silver and 17 bronze medals while Bogra Swimming Centre were placed 3rd securing 13 gold, 8 silver and 2 bronze medals.
In all, 21 new national records were set in the 34 events of the meet with seven on the last day.
Ariful Islam of BKSP became the best swimmer in boys category creating three records in the 18-20 years age group.
Mariam Khatun of Bogra Swimming Centre became best swimmer in the girls category setting up six new national marks in 18-20 years age group.
Titu Miah of BKSP earned 8 gold and one bronze medals in the 15-17 years age group but failed to make national record.
On the 3rd and final day, Nayon Ali of Bogra Swimming Centre made two new national records in the 400-metre freestyle and 200-metre butterfly while Himel Miah of BKSP in the 100-metre breaststroke, Sonia Khatun of BKSP in the 50-metre freestyle event, Rasheda Khatun of Ansar in the 100-metre backstroke, Moriom Khatun of Bogra Swimming Centre in the 200-metre IM event and Zahidul Islam of BKSP in the 100-metre freestyle.
Besides, Nasim Hossain, Sadi Mohammad Mahasin and Rajib Ahmed of BKSP made new records in the spring board diving event.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder distributed prizes among the winners as the chief guest at the closing function while Chairmen of the meet sponsor Cotton Group Shahin Mahmud was present as a special guest.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Benazir Ahmed was also present at the ceremony.
A total of 378 boys and 163 girls from 52 teams competed in 100 swimming and three diving events in five age groups — Under-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17 and 18-20 years.
