5 more RAB men held, placed on 8-day remand

A court here on Wednesday placed five more Rapid Action Battalion personnel on an eight-day remand in connection with Narayanganj seven murder.Senior Judicial Magistrate Chandni Rupam passed the order after police had produced them in the court, seeking 10-day remand.Earlier in the morning, police arrested RAB personnel Emdadul Haque, Arif Hossain, Hira Miah, Billal Hossain and Abu Taiyab.Three RAB officials namely Lieutenant Colonel Tareque Sayeed Mahmud, Major Arif Hossain and Lieutenant Commander MM Rana were sent to forced retirement after the father in-law of slain Narayanganj City Corporation panel Mayor Nazrul Islam on May 4 accused some RAB officials of their involvement in the abduction and killing of seven persons in exchange of money.Later, they were arrested and placed on remand.Seven persons, including Naraynganj City Corporation Councilor Nazrul Islam and senior Lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar, were abducted on April 27. Their bodies were found floating in the river Shitalakkhya on April 30 and May 1.
