Writ seeks nationalisation of DNMC

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking its directives on the government to nationalize Dhaka National Medical College (DNMC).
Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond, also governing body member of the college, lodged the writ on Sunday.
The writ said around 500-600 students, 50 per cent of whom are Indians, Nepalese and Kashmiris, are studying at the medical college. The college has not been nationalized yet even after 93 years of its establishment. It was established in 1926.
Local parliament member, influential quarters and ruling party leaders have been hindering the nationalization, the writ petition said.
This college takes around Tk 25-30 lakh from a student as study costs for five years. Besides, at present 11 members of the governing body, including chairman, are un-elected, read the writ.
Seven persons, including Health and Land Secretaries, Secretary of the PMO, the Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor and the College Principal were made respondents in the writ.
