Plying of water vessels may resume today

The halted water transports across the country may resume their operation today (Sunday) after three days due to rough weather influenced by cyclone Fani.
Alamgir Kabir, Joint Director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), told the media that they cancelled all the water vessels service in view of cyclone Fani.
“We hope that the launch service may be available from Sunday. After all it will depend on weather condition,” he said.
“The river is still turbulent. That is why no water vessel was allowed to leave the terminal on Saturday,” he said.
Visiting the Sadarghat Launch Terminal this correspondent saw no launch in the ghat. All the launches and other mini water vessels were kept in safe places. No passenger was also seen in the terminal yesterday.
Water transports countrywide were suspended last Thursday in advent of the severe cyclonic storm Fani. That is why it has been raining.
Maritime ports of Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower danger signal number seven to hoist local cautionary signal number three.
The Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar ports have also been advised to lower danger signal number six and four to hoist local cautionary signal number three.
