Youth killed in ‘gunfight’ with DB in city

A suspected mugger was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the Detective Branch (DB) of police in the city’s Hatirjheel area early Thursday. The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately, police sources said.
The DB’s Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman confirmed the news and said that a special team of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a drive at Hatirjheel following a secret information at around 4:00am, challenged a youth for his suspicious movement.
Sensing danger, the armed hoodlum, who was riding a motorcycle, fired gunshots targeting the law enforcers. The DB members also retaliated prompting a brief gunfight. The youth received bullet wounds and was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and on-duty doctor declared him dead around 5:00am, the police official said.
One pistol loaded with three bullets, one motorcycle and Tk 47,500 were recovered from the criminal’s possession, he further said.
