Staff Reporter :
The members of law enforcing agencies have arrested the burglars, who allegedly entered the Pakistan High Commission (HC) office to Dhaka in the guise of visitors, and stole few computers.
Police, however recovered all the stolen computers and other documents, said official sources of Gulshan Police Station.
They did not disclose the names and details of the arrested men in the interest of full investigation.
Cops would issue a press release in connection with the burglary soon.
Hedayetul Islam, Deputy Commissioner, High Secure Diplomatic Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told
The Daily New Nation on Tuesday, “Gulshan Crime Unit of Police area investigating the incident. It will take necessary steps to ensure foolproof security as per investigation report.”
The Foreign Office (FO) of Pakistan on Tuesday lodged a “strong protest” with Bangladesh authorities after the burglary.
Earlier, unidentified burglars broke into the consular section of the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka and stole few computers a few days ago.
The FO, in a statement released by its spokesperson, expressed “grave concern” over the incident, as the high commission building is located in a “highly secure diplomatic area” which is not easy to penetrate.
The matter was reported to the authorities and a first information report was registered with police, the statement said, adding that the high commission had also requested the Bangladesh Foreign Office to heighten security around its building. “It has been underscored that as a host, it is the responsibility of the Bangladesh government to provide full security to the Pakistan High Commission premises,” the statement read.
The FO urged Dhaka Metropolitan Police to hold a “thorough investigation, share a detailed report with us and bring the culprits to justice”.
