A massive fire broke out at different places of a reserved forest near the Rohingya camps in Teknaf on Thursday.
The fire occurred at separate places between Nur Ahmed Guna and Naitongpara within Teknaf Municipality around 11am, burning thousands of trees and several vegetable fields, witnesses said.
Teknaf Fire Station officer Kiriti Barua said after being informed they rushed to the spot and after hours of frantic effort they managed to control the wild fire at around 6 pm.
The cause of the fire was not clear yet, he said. Divisional Forest officer Md Ali Kabir said around 150 acres of land including 75 acres of social forest were burned to ashes. The area affected is a stomping ground for wild elephants.
Fire breaks out at Agrani Bank : Fire gutted valuables worth Tk 20,000 at a state-owned commercial bank in Kazir Dewri area in Chittagong city on Tuesday.
The fire originated from generator around 11:15am and was doused within half an hour before it could spread out of the generator room of Agrani Bank, Kazir Dewri Branch, housed on the first floor of Apollo Shopping Centre, said Nandan Kanan fire service officials.
Two fire units were deployed.
AM Abid Hossain, General Manager of Agrani Bank Ltd, Chittagong, said, “Our staff tried to douse the blaze with fire extinguishers as well as informed the fire service officials.”
No valuable document was damaged, he added.
