Fakhrul terms RAB institutionally corrupt

Claiming that Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has got institutionally corrupt, BNP spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday renewed his party’s demand for disbanding the elite force.
“RAB has become an institution for killing, abduction and enforced disappearance. It has also become institutionally corrupt,” he said.
Fakhrul, the BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, came up with remark while taking to reporters after a views-exchange meeting with a delegation of Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Kalyan Front at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
Referring to the reported confessional statement of ex-commanding officer of Rab-11 Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, the BNP leader said the RAB headquarters was aware of the abduction and killings of seven people in Narayanganj.
“They (RAB men) have indulged in misdeeds in exchange for money. We earlier spoke about it and are also saying now the force is no longer necessary… it has to be dissolved.”
In accordance with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s proposal, Fakhrul said after disbanding RAB an effective force will have to be formed the members of which will not indulge in such misdeeds.
Sought his comment over the media report on the government’s move to transfer Ziaur Rahman’s grave from Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to another place, Fakhrul said he is not willing to make any comment on it as he does not know the official version of it.
About the meeting with the delegation of Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Kalyan Front, the BNP leader said the pro-BNP front has been working for the welfare of different minority communities across the country since its formation in 2003.
He said they given the necessary directions at the meeting so that the organisation can work more effectively.
Kalyan Front convener Advocate Gautam Chakraborty led the delegation at the meeting. The front’s leaders Joyatna Kumar Kunda, Arpana Roy Das, Romesh Dutta, Dipen Dewan, Sushil Barua and Debashis Roy, among others, present at the meeting.
