Factional clash leaves 4 injured at CU, one held with sharp weapon

At least four activists were injured and held one activists with sharp weapon in a separate clash between two rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong University (CU) unit, the student front of the ruling Awami League centering for holding seat of a dormitory on university campus on Saturday night.
The injured were identified as Md Shawon, a second year student of chemistry department, Shafiqul Alam Miraz, a second year student of Human Reassures Management department, Liton Ray, third year student of statistics department and Rifat. Shawon and Miraz, were known as activists of ‘Sixty Nine’ group and follower of former president of CU BCL Alamgir Tipu. Others, Liton and Rifat, were known as activist of a group named ‘Choose Friends with Care’ (CFC) and follower of Rezaul Haque Rubel, former Vice president of CU BCL. The activists who was held, was identified as Shakil, an activist of ‘CFC’ group.
Of them, Rezaul Haque Rubel was known as loyal of late ABM Mahiuddin Chowdhury, president of port city Awami League and former port city mayor and Alamgir Tipu was known as follower of AJM Nasir, general secretary of port city Awami League and current port city mayor.
Sources said at around 2:30pm on Saturday, some activists of CFC group beat up an activists named Md Shawon of Sixty Nine group when he came up to hold his seat at Shahamanat Hall.
After the incident when this news spread among the followers of Alamgir Tipu, they engaged an altercation in the afternoon. Then the law enforcers control the situation. After that at night they again locked in a clash following the attack by members of a rival group. This time they hurled brick chunks at each other, leaving the two BCL activists injured.
Following the clashes some of activists of ‘Sixty Nine’ group beat up another activists of ‘CFC’ group in the yesterday morning. Centering this, they took place in front of their hall. When an activist of ‘CFC’ group came up with sharp weapon to take part of the clash, the law enforcers held him, said sources.
“We have given four students primary treatment. One of them was critically injured,” said Dr. Abu Tayob, medical chief of CU medical centre.
To control the situation a team of law enforces went the spot. Additional police has been deployed on the university campus to avert further clashes, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Hathazari Circle) Abdullah Al Masum.
 “After hearing this news we rushed to the spot along with police personnel to bring the situation under control. Now the situation is clam. Till now we do not get any complain. If we get than step will be taken,” said Liton Mitro, assistant proctor of CU.
 “Four activists were injured in the clashes. The two groups, Sixty Nine and CFC, took position in front of Shahjalal Hall and Shah Amanat Hall following the attack said Md Belal Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathazari Police Station.
