Students block Dhaka-Mymensingh highway

Hundreds of students barricaded Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Tongi area after sparked a death rumor of two girl students of Shafiuddin Sarker Academy and College at Tongi College gate area on Tuesday noon.
The protesters also set fire in a pick-up van and vandalized more than 50 vehicles on the highway.
Police and locals said, a Konabari bound pick-up van loaded rice from Tongi bazaar run over two students of Shafiuddin Sarker Academy and college at the area while they were crossing the highway at around 12.10 pm on Tuesday.Both of students, identified as Chhoya,15 of class nine of the school section and her classmate Laboni Akter,14 were injured critically. Local peoples rescued them and at first sent them Bangladesh medical college hospital at Uttara in the capital and then Chhoya shifted to Appollo Hosptal and Laboni Shifted to Dhaka Arthopadic hospital as their condition deteriorated.
After the incident, a rumor was spreaded that they were killed on the spot. Hundreds of student of the academy and others educational institutes of the area and local peoples put barricade on Dhaka – Mymensingh highway.
