ULAB hosts panel discussion on contemporary art

General Education Department (GED) has organized a panel discussion on “Contemporary Art Scene in Bangladesh” on Monday at Dhanmondi in the ULAB Auditorium.
The panelists were Nadia Samdani, Co- Founder and President of the Samdani Art Foundation, Diana Campbell Betancourt, Chief Curator of Dhaka Art Summit, Mustafa Zaman, Editor at Depart- The Art Magazine, Tanzim Wahab, Chief Curator of Bengal Foundation, Nazia Andaleeb Preema, Eminent artist and Professor of English of ULAB and famous Art Critique Syed Manzoorul Islam. Mustafa Zaman, Editor at Depart- The Art Magazine moderated the panel discussion.
In attempting to do this program ULAB has brought a holistic understanding of the contemporary art industry in Bangladesh. Although contemporary art are thriving in Dhaka but general people are not cognizant of the recent developments in Bangladesh contemporary art, they buy art, visit museums and galleries with superficial knowledge.
This panel discussion has explored the current state of contemporary Bangladeshi art and what makes it such a unique form of expression within the broader international contemporary art scene.
The program was inaugurated by Prof Dr HM Jahirul Haque, Vice Chancellor, ULAB and closing speech was given by Prof Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the Board of Trustees, ULAB. The discussion ended with Vote of Thanks by Dr Muhammad Ibrahim, Head, General Education Program (GED). Guests, faculty members, admin members, students were present in the program.
