RAB men's arrest

HC attention drawn to PM’s comment

Staff Reporter :
Supreme Court Lawyer Tamzida Mila brought to the notice of High Court (HC) the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s comment on an HC order to arrest the three sacked Rapid Action Battalion-11 (RAB) personnel for their alleged involvement in the Narayanganj seven-murder.
The lawyer placed a report before the court on Sunday, which published in some national newspapers.
On receiving the report, the HC bench of Justice Mirza Hussain Haider and Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar said they would go through it later.
Talking about the May 11 HC order that asked the authorities to arrest the three RAB officials, Hasina on Saturday told a press conference at the Gono Bhaban: “When we were still investigating the matter … and before that investigation was complete … you [journalists] tell us how can a High Court bench order the arrest of the three?”
Tamzida Mila read out a portion of an English daily’s report before submitting it to the court.
She later told reporters that the PM’s comment about the HC bench was “contemptuous”.
“If the prime minister does not show respect to the High Court, other people will not honour the court,” she said.
Asked if she would file any appeal with the HC for an order against the PM, Tamzida said she was yet to a decision in this regard.
