Woman gang raped in city

A young woman became a victim of gang rape in city’s Suhrawardy Uddyan on Monday night. A case was filed with Shahbagh police in this connection against Nayum and five others on Tuesday morning.
One of the accused was arrested in this connection, Habil Hossain, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case said.
The woman who has been living in city’s Nazirabazar was invited by her friend Nayum to Suhrawarddy Uddyaan area with promise to marry her.
Nayum was waiting for her with some of his friends when she met him on Monday evening, police said. They spent some hours gossiping.
Nayum introduced his friends Shahin, Imran and Habib with her. He also said that some of them would be witness of their wedding. But around 11 PM they took her behind the mazar of three national leaders (Tin Neta) and gang raped her at daggers point. The patrol police rescued her when she was returning home by a rickshaw after the incident, police said.
She came to know Nayum for about two weeks.
They used to gossip near Glass Tower at Suhrawardy Uddyan since they came to know each other. She is from Shariatpur. She was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for medical test, police said.
Some students of Dhaka University might be involved in the incident, according to acting proctor Dr. M. Amzad Ali. The University authority, he said, would also investigate the incident whether any of its students is in any way involved in the crime.
