Four matches to be played in NCL today
The franchise based country’s most prestigious longer version Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) begins today (Sunday) at four separate venues across the country.
On the opening day, Dhaka Metropolis will take on Dhaka Division at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra, Khulna Division will face Barisal Division Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna, Rajshahi Division meet Sylhet Division at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi and Rangpur Division will face Chittagong Division at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
All the matches kick off at 9.30 am.
The BCL is the franchise-based first-class tournament, which is placed along geographical zones like north, south, east and central. One of the franchise owners, Prime Bank Limited, pulled out this year due to unavailability of players and a supposed lack of quality players in the tournament.
A total of eight teams are divided in two tires based on the position. According to the rules, Barisal Division, Dhaka Metro, Khulna Division and Dhaka Division will compete with each other in tire-1 double in double league format while Rangpur Division, Rajshahi Division, Chittagong Division and Sylhet Division will play in tire-2.
Barisal Division, who finished top last NCL from tire-2 will join tire-1 while Rangpur Division who was at last year in tire -1 at the bottom and would be relegated to tire-2 as per tournament rules.
