Quality inevitable in teaching-learning at tertiary level

Expansion of higher education has taken place in the country, a big achievement for Bangladesh as enrollment at tertiary level is 30 lakhs plus at present. Quality teaching and learning is highly needed for producing accomplished and skilled graduate to survive in the global arena, observed UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan.
He made the observation while speaking as the chief guest at an inaugural ceremony of a two-day workshop on Strengthening Teaching and Learning Capacity in the Higher Education Sector of Bangladesh under Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at UGC auditorium on Wednesday. Hank Williams, Chief Consultant, British Council is conducting the tow-daylong workshop. The chief guest also said that UGC has been relentlessly working to enhance the quality of higher education through establishment of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in public and private universities. He called for effective functioning of teaching and learning through CETL in Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Chittagong University, Jahangirnagar University, Khulna University and BRAC University for quality teaching and learning. These seven universities have been selected to participate in this workshop.
Bangladesh will be able to hold its head high to the global community if its huge youth force could be equipped with updated knowledge and skills by imparting quality education, he observed.
UGC Members Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum and Prof Dr Md. Akhtar Hossain, UGC Secretary Dr Md. Khaled, Vice-Chancellors/Pro Vice-Chancellors from Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Chittagong University, Jahangirnagar University, Khulna University and BRAC University, Directors / Deputy Directors from CETL, officials from UGC and British Council Bangladesh, among others were present on the occasion.
