Expat shot dead in Noakhali by ‘extortionist’
UNB, Noakhali :
A China expatriate was gunned allegedly by an extortionist at Charparbati village in Companiganj upazila here early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Zahidul Islam Maruf, 42. He came home from China two months back.
Sajedur Rahman Sajid, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station said Abdul Malek Yasin, a listed criminal of the area, had been demanding extortion from Maruf for the last two months.
Yasin stabbed Maruf in front of his house at around 1 am with sharp weapons and later shot him, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Noakhali Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police recovered four firearms and some weapon-making tools from Yasin’s residence, but Yasin managed to flee the scene.
