Special drives in Ctg, 90 held

Chittagong District Police in overnight special drives arrested 90 people including 4 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), at different upazilas of the district Saturday night .
The law enforcers also recovered 6200 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets, 75 litres liquor and 200 gram hemp during the night-long drives.
Mohammad Naimul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district police said that several teams of police conducted the drives in different Upazilas of the district Saturday night and rounded up 90 people.
The arrested includes 2 Jamaat men, 2 ICS activists, 64 warranty and 22 accused in regular cases, the additional SP added.
Law enforcers alleged for vandalism :A number of family members of Hossain Ahmed Para under city ward No.40 in EPZ thana area in city alleged against the Officer Incharge and one Sub-Inspecor of EPZ thana for patronising the ransacking the dwelling houses by Sramik league and Jubo league leaders led by Matin Master and Aziz . This was disclosed at a press conference held at chittagong press club auditorium on Friday morning as arranged by the sufferers. An elderly sufferer Ayub Ali read out a written statement before the pressmen in the meet. The press meet was told that Sramik League leader Matin Master and Jubo league leader M Aziz directly involved in vandalising their dwelling houses. Sources said seven families built kutcha dwelling houses overkhas land near halishahar embankment area(kathian No.1, plot No.3003 ) of total land 8 gandas and residing peacefully since long. In the meantime, these family members also prayed to district administration for leasing out these khas land to them on June 14 last which is now under process, they said.
