Sylhet Dist Press Club installation ceremony held

The Installation ceremony of the newly -elected Executive Committee of Sylhet Zilla Press Club (SZPC) was held at the Sylhet Zilla Porisod Auditorium on Saturday. This executive committee will run the activities of SZPC for next two years starting from 2016 to 2018. Editor of The Daily Observer and PM’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury was present as Chief Guest at the installation ceremony presided over by the former and re-elected President of SZPC Aziz Ahmed Selim. The special guest were Jatio Party Central Commitee Vice Chairman Advocate Gias Uddin Ahmed, Principal of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Morshed Ahmed Chowdhury, Acting President of Sylhet District Awami League and District Administrator Advocate Lutfur Rahman, general secretary of Sylhet District Awami League and former MP Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, founder president of Canada Awami League Sarwar Ahmed, Principal of Madan Mohan College Dr. Abul Fateh Fattah, Independent Television Sylhet Bureau Chief Al Azad, special correspondent of the daily Bortoman and senior journalist Liaquat Shah Faridi, news editor of the daily uttorpurbo Tapas Das Purakayasta, Sylhet District Bar Association President Samiul Alam, Freedom fighters Rafiqul Islam, South Surma Upazila Parishad Chairman Abu Zahid. Club Treasurer Monirujjaman Monir and Senior Vice President Oyse Khasru gave welcome address at the installation. It was jointly conducted by the former general secretary of SZPC Songram Singh and newly-elected General Secretary Shah Dider Alam Chowdhury Nobel.
5 arrested along with boundary pillar in Fakirhat

At least 5 persons were arrested along with a boundary pillar worth Tk.1 cr. by the police of Fakikrhat PS from the village Shyambagat within Piljanga Union under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Sunday morning. The arrested persons are Malek Sardar (50), son of one Sonail Sardar of village Sreenagar under Dakop Upazila in Khulna district, Kamrul Mollla (35), son of one Kawsar Molla of the same village, Milon Shaikh (30), son of one Sayeed Shaikh of village Shyambagat under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district and his brother Islam Shaikh (32) and Ohid Mallik (50), son of one Kasem Mallik of the same village. SI Haidar Ali of Fakirhat Model PS disclosed, acting on secret information that buying and selling of a boundary pillar is going on in the village Shyambat a police squad of the PS raided the house of Ohid Mallik of the village in the early morning and arrested 5 persons from there. Later the police recovered the boundary pillar from the behind of the house where it was hidden, according to their statements.
Youth jailed for eve-teasing in Laxmipur
LAXMIPUR: A mobile court here on Monday sentenced a youth to six months’ jail for eve teasing under Raipur upazila. The convict is Ferdous Hasan Nahin, 23, son of Golam Ali Bhuiyan at Denaetpur area of the municipality. Police sources said Nahin was arrested on charge of teasing a school girl student on Sunday night and police sent him to the court. Later, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sharmin Alam arranged the trial of him at the mobile court and gave the punishment, reports BSS.
BCL factional clash injures 3 , room ransacked at B M College

Three activists were injured and one room of Muslim Hall at Barisal Government Brojo Mohun College was ransacked by the rival faction of BCL on early Monday. The injured three were Rafikul Islam, A M Wali and Sajib Shikdar, resident students of the ransacked room no. 207 at the hall. They were followers of Nahid Serniabad, former joint convener of the college unit BCL. Prof. Imanul Hakim, principal of the college on Monday said he heard about the incident and asked hall superintendent Bellal Husain to investigate the matter. Shah Md. Awlad Hossain, officer in charge of Barisal Kotwali police station, said hearing the matter police rushed to the spot at mid-night and rescuing the injured students sent to Barisal SBMCH for treatment. Police intensified patrol in the tensed college area and blamed BCL factional rivalry for the incident.
Witnesses said there were rivalries between two factions of BCL led by Moin Tushar and Nahid Serniabad, former joint conveners of the college unit and VP and GS of the now defunct student working council.
