SUST student drowns in campus pond

A student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) drowned in a pond of the university on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Niloy Muhammad Azam, a second year student of Computer Science and Engineering Department. He hailed from Comilla district and was the son of Abul Bashar. Prof Rashed Talukder, acting proctor of the university, said Niloy drowned in the pond near second student hall while swimming at around 2:00pm. When some children who were also swimming there raised an alarm, university students rushed in and rescued Niloy. He was rushed to Jalalabad Ragib-Rabiya Medical College and Hospital but the doctors declared him dead at around 3:00pm, said the proctor.
Forests including Lawachhora National Forest demanded

Moulvibazar Paribesh Sangbadik Forum on Sunday called upon the government to take immediate steps to make the all forest including Lawacherra National Forest free from encroachers and pollution. They made this demand during of a dialogue meeting in Moulvibazar Press Club Hall room in Moulvibazar district town on Sunday. Environmentalists urged lack of regular maintenance and dredging gave rise where a section of people are setting up illegal structures. In this programme Moulvibazar Municipal Mayor Fojlur Rahman attended as chief guest and key note presented by Moulvibazar Paribesh Sangbadik forum secretary Nurul Muhaimin Milton. Mihir Kumar Dhar, DFO (wildlife) in Moulvibazar addressed as special guest and programme chair by Syed Mohosin Pervaj, president of Moulvibazar Paribesh Sangbadik forum. They also said many incidents of Lawacherra forest pollution while visiting in the forests. 46 consumers get electricity connection in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR: A total of 46 consumers of Balagachhi union under Islampur upazila in the district have got electricity connection from Jamalpur Palli Bidyut Samity (JPBS). Alhaj Faridul Haque Khan Dulal, MP, formally inaugurated the electrification programme Sunday afternoon at a simple function at Belagachhi High School premises of the upazila as the chief guest. Local Awami League leader Md Farhad Hossain presided over the function. General Secretary of Islampur upazila Awami League Advocate Abdus Salam, and deputy general manager of JPBS Abu Bakar Shibli were present, among others. JPBS brought an area of 1.5 kilometers under rural electrification network spending Taka about 10.45 lakh reports BSS.
